Congressional Federal Credit Union DC Scholarship Program

 

For Anacostia, Dunbar, School Without Walls, and Phelps ACE Graduating High School Seniors


Application submission period is February 1 - April 30, 2025
  |    Scholarship winners will be announced by May 16, 2025. 

Congressional Federal will award four $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the following DC-area schools based on their community service, recommendation letter, essay question and academic standing:

  • Anacostia High School
  • Dunbar High School
  • Phelps Architecture, Construction and Engineering High School 
  • School Without Walls High School 

 

Scholarship recipients must have been accepted at an accredited college, university, technical or trade school. Winners are selected based on their community service, letter of reference, grade-point average (2.5 or higher) and how well they answer the essay question.


All materials must be received by April 30, 2025.
You will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of your application.



Personal Essay: Attach a 500-word maximum typed essay.

Topic: What life lessons did you learn while completing your service hours and how will you apply them toward your future? 



Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be a graduating high school senior attending one of the four eligible Washington, DC area high schools (Anacostia, Dunbar, School Without Walls, or Phelps) with a grade point average of 2.5 or above, based upon a 4.0 scale.
  2. Use the funds for the purpose of study at an accredited college, university, technical, or trade school
  3. One entry per applicant.

Application Requirements

  1. Submit a completed scholarship application.
  2. Submit a 500-word maximum typed essay on the selected topic: "What life lessons did you learn while completing your service hours and how will you apply them toward your future?"
  3. Submit a copy of an acceptance letter from an accredited college, university, technical or trade school.
  4. Submit a copy of your high school community service hours log/transcript.
  5. Submit a copy of your most recent grades/transcript. Scholarship recipients will be required to follow up with an official sealed copy of their schools transcript.
  6. Submit a signed reference letter from a teacher, guidance, counselor, community leader, or non-family member.
  7. Deadline for submission of all materials is April 30, 2025.
  8. Incomplete packages will not be considered. The deadline will not be extended under any circumstances.

Selection Process

  1. The final decision is based upon community service, letter of reference, GPA and the applicants essay to include content, grammar, writing style, and originality.
  2. The selection committee will review all applications.
  3. Winners will be announced May 16, 2025.
  4. Winners must submit a photo for the credit union newsletter and website.

*The credit union must be notified in writing by Aug. 1, 2025 if you decide to attend a different institution. A new admissions letter will be required.

I agreed to accept the decision of the judges as final, I further agreed that the essay submitted for judging purposes will become the property of Congressional Federal Credit Union, and that it may be used in whole or in part by Congressional Federal Credit Union at the credit union's discretion. I understand that if selected as a scholarship recipient, I will be required to submit an official school transcript verifying my academic record as well as an acceptance letter from my intended accredited college, university, technical or trade school prior to award disbursement. I further understand that if selected as a scholarship recipient, I agree to the use of my name, essay and photo in any and all promotional materials and publications, including web-based publications as related to the competition.
